PRESS RELEASE – Albany Surf Life Saving Club – 17 March, 2020
2020 Albany Harbour Swim and 2020 Albany Surf Craft Challenge –
We are sorry to advise that due to the implications of the COVID-19 situation and the current State of Emergency declared for WA, the 2020 Albany Harbour Swim and 2020 Albany Surf Craft Challenge events are both cancelled.
We know there will be many disappointed competitors and Albany Surf Life Saving Club is extremely disappointed that two of our very important annual events will not go ahead this year. We expect you will understand this decision in light of what is happening around us and how quickly this situation is evolving.
It is likely that this decision would have eventually been made for us, however we make this announcement now to provide some earlier warning to both competitors and event volunteers.
As an organisation with a primary focus on member and public safety, we have an obligation to assist the government in meeting these health objectives by doing what we can to slow transmission of COVID-19 among our members and members of the public as a whole.
We also rely on the assistance of other organisations and the approval of government agencies to deliver these events and it is now unrealistic to expect that support to continue.
To those who have already registered for the Harbour Swim, unfortunately we are unable to offer a refund.
