2018-2019 ASLSC Member Induction book

On this page you will find information on joining your child as a Nipper, joining as an Active Member and how you can participate in this awesome club. This page will also give you membership information and the fees associated with this season . We are at Middleton Beach most weekends during summer. Club activities are on a Sunday Morning commencing with Nippers at 9.00am and Seniors at 10.30am.

Nippers 5- 13 years – All children in this age bracket are known as Nippers and can take part in Nipper activities on the beach on Sunday mornings. Nippers work toward their relevant Achievement certificate for their particular age group each season. All Nippers are required to wear a compulsory coloured cap $15 and a hi-vis yellow singlet $20 available on registration day and on Sunday mornings from the uniform shop. Membership of an active Nipper requires the membership of at least one parent, either within a family membership, parent membership or becoming an active member of the club.

Each member over the age of 18 years MUST have a valid Working With Children Card, this is part of the new SLSWA legislation starting 2018-2019, for the benefit and protection of all minors. This policy doesn’t apply to members who are parents of an under 18 unless in a capacity where classified as requiring a WWC ie – Age Group Managers / Assistants / Partaking in overnight camps.

Listed below are the age groups that members will be in for the 2018/19 season if they are born between the following dates:

  • U6*  1st October 2012 to 30th September 2013
  • U7    1st October 2011 to 30th September 2012
  • U8    1st October 2010 to 30th September 2011
  • U9    1st October 2009 to 30th September 2010
  • U10  1st October 2008 to 30th September 2009
  • U11  1st October 2007 to 30th September 2008
  • U12  1st October 2006 to 30th September 2007
  • U13  1st October 2005 to 30th September 2006

* Note: Children must be at least 5 years before they can be registered.  They can still start after the season commences, as soon as they turn 5.

JOINING : If you would like to join as a family and have children that you would like to take part in the Nipper program, we have 2 options available.

  1. Register online – view our Become a Member page for details ( please note that your application for membership remains rending until approved by the club). Previous members please use Renew membership page.
  2. Complete membership form ( one for each member ) and email to registrar@albanysurfclub.com.au or bring on registration day.           Payment MUST accompany registration


Parents / guardians are very welcome and encouraged to gain an award such as parent water safety/ first aid or a resuscitation certification, this may lead you on to becoming an active member of the club. It is a wonderful way to get to know more people in the club. There are many advantages to active membership including gaining your bronze medallion. Group Entitlements

Age Group Entitlements and notes
U6 and U7 (Purple Caps) Use of Junior soft boards and foamies.
Parents must be present on the beach during their participation in all Club activities.
U8 and U9 (Yellow Caps) Use of Junior soft boards.
Parents must be present on the beach during their participation in all Club activities.
U10 and U11 (Red Caps) Use of Junior soft boards and mini-mals (based on experience). Able to attend mid-week junior training sessions.U10 are now able to compete in SLSWA sanctioned events. Please see your AGM for advice before entering these events.
U12 and U13 (Blue Caps) U13’s Required to gain Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) Surf Rescue Certificate for which the Club manages the training courses.  Use of mini-mals (U13’s).
Parent Membership U6-U13 At least one parent must accompany a Nipper membership, this will entitle the parent to partake in parent water safety, gain basic first aid and resuscitation certificates. This membership also covers a social membership
Youth: U14 – U18   (Club Caps) U14 use senior mals. SRC & Bronze medallion qualifications. Encouraged to attend mid-week training and represent Club at inter club competitions. Rostered for patrols and encouraged to gain further certificates, qualifications (official, coach, trainer, area captain, age group manager, etc for 16+) and to represent the Club at inter club competitions.  Can use senior boards and equipment (16+ for skis)
Patrolling Senior Member

(19+ Years)

Required to obtain SLSA Bronze Medallion and be rostered for patrols.  Encouraged to participate in Club and inter club competitions and become a committee member, trainer, assessor, volunteer, assist with water safety etc.  Use of club facilities and equipment, has voting rights and eligible for application for issue of keys to the Clubhouse (annual application of $20/year and requires approval of the Committee)
Active Senior Member May be granted by the Club to persons who may or may not hold a SLSA award.  This member is actively contributing within the club. (Approved by the committee only)
Family Membership Each family member must select a membership category.  Minimum of 1 parent/cadet to be rostered for patrols/contributing club member/Age Group Manager/Water Safety.
Social (19+ years) Able to attend club Sundowners and Club functions. Able to sign in 3 non club member friend to social evenings. Do not have voting rights. No access to club equipment or boat shed facilities. Must use own gear.
All Active and Financial members have access to the club facilities. Social/Parent members are able to join into social activities including Friday night club evenings, this membership excludes any other club access and use of club gear. Club access keys will only be issued on ASLSC Committee approval to Active senior patrolling or contributing members.

Refund Policy: A refund may be given by the Club within a period of 4 weeks from the date of registration. Any refund of fees will incur a $25 administration fee per person.

Club Shop It is compulsory that all Junior members wear both their relevant age group colour cap (purple, yellow, red or blue) and a HIGH VISIBILITY YELLOW which are available for purchase from the Club.  Previously purchased PINK vests may be worn on club days. Yellow vests must be worn at state sanctioned events. The Uniform shop is open till 10.30 on Club mornings only. ASLSC have assorted club gear available for sale for all ages and sizes. These include hats, bathers, thermal rashies, hoodies, yellow high vis vests and towels.
