Surf Sports form a diverse and historic component of who we are as a club. At ASLSC we are lucky to have some of the finest stretches of beach in WA to train and compete on. From nippers to Masters, all our members have the opportunity to participate in surf sports training and competitions. Surf Sports incorporates several different events based on the skills required as a surf life-saver, from beach sprints to surf boats, boards, skis and ocean swimming.
The motivating factor always is to improve fitness, continually enhance core lifesaving skills and have fun with fellow club members to keep our beautiful beach safe. At ASLSC we have regular competition days each Sunday for these disciplines, including Beach Running, Team relay and Swimming events, and we also currently have Captains and offer opportunities for training and involvement in, Boats, Skis and Boards.
At Surf Life Saving’s inception, Surf Boats were used as a means to pluck troubled swimmers from the water. While rescue methods have changed significantly over the years, Boaties still train to get these large boats out through the big surf break and back to shore again as quickly as possible without capsizing. The club maintains an excellent fleet of craft with many opportunities to get on the water with new and regular crews training throughout the week. Dani Lynch is the club’s Boat Captain. Please refer to the Club Induction Handbook on the club’s website for her contact details and further information.
Surf skis are well supported within the club with competition, development and social paddlers regularly on the water with expert guidance and training opportunities available. The club has a regular weekly Ski session each Friday under the tutelage of Slats our Ski Captain. Please refer to Club Induction Handbook for Captains contact details and further information.
Board paddling is one of the basic skills for surf life saving and is also an exciting and challenging discipline to get involved in. Board events are held at club, State and National level, and include single board races, board rescues and relay events. ASLSC offers a range of board paddling training at regular times throughout the week during the season, from beginners to expert/competition level – for everyone from Nippers to Masters. James Hearle is the club’s Board Captain. Please refer to the Club Induction Handbook on the club’s website for contact details and further information.
